Overview

Nestled in the heart of Belconnen, Xi'an Famous Noodles 西安味道 brings a slice of authentic Chinese cuisine to Canberra’s dining scene. This Asian restaurant, located conveniently at 1/114 Emu Bank, specializes in hearty hand-pulled noodles and traditional Xi’an flavors that transport you straight to the vibrant streets of Shaanxi province.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Biangbiang Noodles, a signature dish known for its wide, chewy strands and rich, bold toppings. Whether you prefer them dry or with soup, these noodles deliver an unpretentious yet deeply satisfying taste of northern Chinese comfort food. Other highlights include the Steamed Chicken with Chilli Sauce and the Fish with Pickled Vegetables Noodle Soup, each plate balancing spice, tang, and umami with skillful precision.

Beyond noodles, dishes like Cumin Beef and Stir Fried Green Beans with Pork Mince showcase the kitchen’s adeptness with bold, layered flavors. The kitchen also impresses with comforting classics such as Noodle Soup with Beef Brisket, offering rich broth and tender meat, and the Chinese Hamburger Pork, a unique street-food style item that delights with its savory punch. For those seeking spice, many dishes can be adjusted to suit milder preferences without losing authenticity, an aspect that many visitors appreciate.

The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, although the dining space is somewhat compact. This can mean wait times during peak hours, but the genuine hospitality and attentive service soften any impatience. Regular patrons, such as Jie Tan, praise the spot for both its genuine flavors and accommodating approach to spice levels, while newcomers highlight the friendly staff and the availability of chili oil at every table—a small touch that aficionados of heat adore.

Xi'an Famous Noodles appeals primarily to lovers of authentic regional Chinese fare—especially noodles rooted in Xi’an’s culinary tradition. Families and food enthusiasts alike will find the menu rewarding, with dishes that range from comforting and familiar to excitingly adventurous. The restaurant’s commitment to authenticity shines through every plate, inviting customers to savor the depth of northern Chinese flavors right in Canberra.

While some diners note a potential wait time, especially when the restaurant is busy, the quality and flavor of the food more than compensate. The experience is warm, flavorful, and true to the cuisine’s heritage, making Xi'an Famous Noodles a must-visit for those craving a genuine taste of Xi’an without leaving Australia.

Eat there three times over a weekend with my son. Authentic Chinese, & you can ask for non spicy if you are not into that. Beats the fastfood noodle shop down the road. I would recommend it to anyone interested in authentic Chinese noodles anytime!

Great flavourful food and wonderful service. The dumplings were top notch and were served with a dipping sauce. And always a plus to see chilli oil on the table. Will definitely be back and try more.

This dish is a classic comfort food that combines simplicity with bold, hearty flavors. The perfectly steamed white rice provides the ideal base, soaking up the rich and vibrant sauce of the stir-fried eggplant. The eggplant is cooked to perfection—tender and slightly caramelized, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s complemented by its smoky undertones. However, the only downside was the waiting time. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, it took nearly 30 minutes for the food to be served. While the quality of the dish somewhat made up for the delay, it’s something to consider if you’re in a rush.

The food there was so nice my family all enjoyed it. I def would try it again. The stuff there were friendly as well. But the place was a bit too small. Dependent on the busy times, might have to wait for a longer time but it’s def worth it! The best place I’ve tried in cbr for xi’an food especially noodles
